WHY ASSESS?

  • to determine if targets are met
  • to determine entry knowledge and skills
  • to check status of learners learning

FUNCTIONS

  • To facilitate learning:

         – achieve the set of objectives

         – motivate students to learn

– monitor, assist and improve learning through constructive feedback

– avoid labeling

  • To facilitate teaching: provide feedback to assist and improve teaching
  • To institutional or professional requirements : Grade, rank, select students, and maintain standards

PRINCIPLES OF ASSESSMENT

I BELIEVE….

  1. It is one integral part of teaching
  2. It should match with performance objectives
  3. It must be fed back to the learners
  4. It should be assessed in variety of ways
  5. It contributes to the culture of success.
  6. It empathizes on self-assessment
  7. Teachers need  to believe that all is capable of learning
  8. It must not be used as a form of discipline or punishment
  9. Results must be communicated to parents regularly
  10. It emphasizes on real world application that favors realistic performance.
